About Options Boy

Hi, my name is Scott Hodson.  I like to trade options, and like to share my trading thoughts and experiences. Writing about my trades helps me think through them more clearly and makes me a better trader.  Hopefully you might learn from them, or you might get a good laugh at the ones that go horribly wrong but hopefully we can always learn from our mistakes.

I am a software engineer by trade, but I’ve always had a bug for Wall St. since my teens.  Coincidentally, my first job out of college had me writing portfolio management software for stock brokers and I became very familiar with the industry and even got to work across from the NYSE every day for a year managing projects for our customers.  I was in heaven!  Since then, I’ve just enjoyed learning more about the market and tuning my skills.  I read books, blogs, subscribe to newsletters, watch FastMoney religiously every day, and have attended some free and for-pay Optionetics seminars and conferences on trading.  Also, I’ve made some tremendous gains and tremendous losses in the market, the most expensive kind of education!  I also paper/virtual trade when I’m trying some new or exotic strategies I’m not yet comfortable with.  You have to always be learning!

I call the site “Options Boy” because in 2007 I was trading options and I had great success (luck) most of the year, then eventually made some really impatient, risky bets and lost a lot.  I realized I needed help, I needed someone to teach me what the heck I was doing wrong.  I went to a 2-day Optionetics seminar and, wow, did I realize how little I actually knew about trading stock options.  I felt like a little boy in a world of seasoned veterans.  Hence, the term “options boy”.  While I feel much more confident and better educated, I can always learn more.  Staying humble about your knowledge will enable you to always hunger for more knowledge.  So, no matter how experienced and expert I become and stock and options trading, I will always maintain that boyish desire for more knowledge and success.

Also, please don’t buy securities based on my advice, my trades or my information. If you do please note that you are responsible for dong your own research and I am not responsible for your profits or losses. I recommend you seek the advice of a professional financial adviser for investing advice, or become very educated in the methods and activities of stock trading in order to manage your risk.
